Ohio State’s recent Sept. 16 games have been against Group of 5 schools, but the program has played notable games against Iowa, Oklahoma State and Washington on this date.
Eddie George wastes Washington
Washington's head coach, Jim Lambright, had this to say about George's performance: "It was awesome. One hundred and fifty yards in the first half. He does a great job with vision. They got us caught between inside plays and outside plays. He then has the vision to take what the defense gives him. And he always falls forward."
Gundy and the Cowboys stood strong in the first half. A Carlos Snow 2-yard touchdown run – his second of the game – with seven seconds remaining in the first half gave the Buckeyes a 16-13 lead after 30 minutes of play. Unlike Gundy, Ohio State's Greg Frey found his rhythm in the final two quarters as he threw two touchdown passes to Scottie Graham and scored on a 1-yard run to secure a 37-13 victory for the Buckeyes. Frey finished the day with three touchdown passes and at that point, a career-high 285 passing yards.
