But on Aug. 6, it was his car ride home from a Sunday cycle that was the most dangerous.“All the sudden my vision kind of tunneled up, I got extremely dizzy,” Durling said. “I blacked out and that’s when my heart stopped.”
Johnson performed more than three rounds of CPR, keeping blood flowing and delivering oxygen to his brain until crews from the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department could arrive. “I woke up and saw four strangers staring down at me and they immediately said, ‘Mr. Durling you’ve had a heart attack you’re in the back of an ambulance',” Durling said.
Thursday, Durling was able to greet folks who saved his life. He asked all the people he calls his “guardian angels” to sign the now torn cycling shirt he was wearing that day.
