Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers militia group, recently warned Donald Trump about his classified documents trial, saying Trump will “be found guilty” if he goes. The warning comes from Rhodes’s experience being in Trump's position.
The warning comes from Rhodes’s experience of being in the same position as Trump — the former was convicted of seditious conspiracy regarding his involvement in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Rhodes told the Washington Times that federal prosecutors will do “the same thing” to Trump.“You’re going to get railroaded. You’re going to be found guilty if you try to go to trial,” Rhodes said about Trump.
Rhodes claimed the federal government is actively trying to turn Trump’s inner circle against him and attempting to intimidate possible witnesses from defending the former president in court.“I didn’t enter the Capitol, but I was still found guilty by a D.C. jury of obstructing an official proceeding even though I didn’t even go inside,” Rhodes said. “And I was found guilty of seditious conspiracy, although they had zero evidence of an actual plan. They just used my speech.
Trump was charged on 37 criminal counts pertaining to his handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in southern Florida. He currently does not have a set court date. However, federal prosecutors previously requested a tentative federal trial to occur in December, but that could possibly be postponed until spring 2024.
