The Oakland Police Department is investigating over a dozen robberies that occurred at local businesses, OPD Capt. David Elzey said in aThe department said the spike in commercial robberies occurred over the past week, and in many cases, individuals forced their way into the establishments by using a tool or object. After taking items, the individuals fled the area in a vehicle, police said.

One business, Lounge Chinatown on the 300 block of Eighth Street, was robbed about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Oakland police told SFGATE. Wang said the surveillance footage showed thieves in the establishment for about 14 minutes, taking high-end alcohol bottles, glass and cash from the registers. She said the business estimated about a $36,000 loss so far.
