Scammers have been using spoofed city of San Antonio phone numbers and posing as law enforcement officers. Don't get parted from your money.
After some small talk, the scammers tell you you're under investigation by theSheriff:
For added realism, the scammers have been using spoofed phone numbers beginning with the 210 area code, followed by 207-, the standard prefix for San Antonio city government numbers, according to SAPD."The San Antonio Police Department will NEVER contact citizens and ask for a payment, via phone, or to transfer money to a certain account," the department said in a Facebook post calling attention to the scam.
"Be mindful of who you may be speaking to, and verify the person on the other line, before giving out any identifying information over the phone."If you were taken in by a scammer, call SAPD’s non-emergency number at 210-207-7273 to file a report.
