The company creates materials that are thermally resistant, used often for filtration as insulators. The materials could be used in lithium-ion batteries to make the battery more efficient. The company’s filter materials have also been used in N95 masks and COVID-19 test kits. “As we grow and scale, it became important to us to be in a market that just has diverse and capable talent that I’d say is increasingly difficult to find around the world,” Dandolph said. “Especially given the labor shortage and a lot of the dynamics we’ve all seen in the last couple years.”
Alkegen is a privately owned company with a valuation of nearly $2 billion, backed by Santa Monica, Calif.-based Clearlake Capital Group. The company has 7,000 employees globally, with 1,000 professionals and 6,000 in manufacturing operations.
