Doctor Who production house Bad Wolf Studios has released an image of Fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa in front of a new mural teasing the coming Whoniverse. Starting with the three-episode 60th Anniversary later this year, Russell T. Davies is making his return as showrunner. A 2023 Christmas Special will see Ncuti Gatwa step into the TARDIS after David Tennant's brief return to the role, followed by season 14 which will be eight episodes long along with a Christmas Special of its own.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Gatwa was snapped by Bad Wolf Studios looking ecstatic in front of a newly unveiled mural that features him as the Doctor, and a tagline reading "The Home of the Whoniverse." Doctor Who fans are hugely excited by the tagline, which implies that spinoffs may well be in the works. Davies has previously spoken of his desire to expand the Whoniverse into a Marvel-style continuity, and there has been much speculation that Davies will oversee a number of other shows parallel to Doctor Who, though nothing has yet been officially confirmed; this tagline is the closest audiences have come to confirmation.
Though not much is known beyond the 60th Anniversary special, Gatwa's first full episode is confirmed to be the 2023 Christmas episode. Interesting to note is the return of Christmas Specials, which were staples in the first Davies and Steven Moffat eras, but ditched in favor of New Years' Specials in the Chibnall era.
Though little is known about the plot of the upcoming season 14, the BBC has entered into an international distribution agreement with Disney+, which will see the show air on the platform in every eligible territory worldwide starting with the 60th Anniversary, excluding the UK which will continue to air the show on BBC One and its companion streaming service, iPlayer.
