A report says Christina Hodson's script for the now-canceled Michael Keaton Batman movie included Bruce Wayne getting romantic with Catwoman.
DC’s canceled Batman spinoff starring Michael Keaton reportedly was supposed to include a romance with Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. Keaton’s Bruce Wayne will be back when the long-awaited Flash movie opens up the DC multiverse next year. But future plans involving Keaton’s Batman are apparently on hold, if not outright canceled, after James Gunn and Peter Safran’s ascension to co-heads of DC Studios.
It was indeed only just revealed that DC had been planning a Flash spinoff starring Keaton’s Batman, and that this spinoff would have been a movie version of the animated series Batman Beyond. It was also just revealed that Flash writer Christina Hodson was working on the script for this Batman Beyond project. Now according to a new report from THR, Hodson’s Batman Beyond script would have featured a Batman universe reunion, seeing Bruce Wayne getting romantic with Selina Kyle aka Catwoman.
It’s yet to be seen what all this means for the future of the DCU under the guidance of Gunn and Safran. It’s possible of course that the new DC Studios co-heads are simply putting this project on-hold as they work out precisely what they want to do going forward. But it certainly appears that they are inclined to nix the Batman Beyond project, despite fan excitement over the potential movie.
Batman Beyond is indeed a title with a lot of promise, given its premise involving an older Bruce Wayne mentoring a teenaged Batman in a futuristic version of Gotham. But it seems Gunn and Safran are not as high as some on the idea of bringing an older Batman into the DCU.
