While the heat isn't going away anytime soon, the intensity of it will begin to ease up in the coming days. We're under a Heat Advisory today until 8 p.m.

While the heat isn't going away anytime soon, the intensity of it will begin to ease up in the coming days. We're under atoday until 8 p.m. Afternoon heat index values will be between 105-109 later today. Please continue to take those heat precautions and stay hydrated.

High temperatures will begin to level off Friday and this weekend. In fact, Friday will likely be the last triple digit day for awhile. Saturday and Sunday are expected to top out in the mid to upper 90s. In addition, rain chances are set to return Sunday and early next week. Rain/storm chances are more likely to be isolated rather than widespread and long-lasting. Even still, some outdoor plans for the Fourth of July may need to be adjusted next Tuesday.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles. According to the National Safety Council, if it's 95 degrees outside the internal temperature of a car could climb to 129 degrees in 30 minutes. After just 10 minutes, temperatures inside could reach 114 degrees. A child's body temperature heats up three to five times faster than an adult and heatstroke can begin when a person's core body temperature reaches 104 degrees. A core temperature of 107 degrees is lethal,Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.
