Mental health professionals across North Texas are celebrating the move, calling it an important step in the right direction for Texans in need of immediate mental health care. Texas’ five Lifeline centers — one in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and El Paso — handled only 59,800 of the more than 148,000 calls generated from Texas in 2021, according to National Alliance on Mental Illness of Texas data.
