The sisters, who started Lala and Mimi's Pajama Project, were honored with Rotary Club Community Service Award.

When Lauren Multari and Mackenzie Multari of Hamilton turned 5, their parents hosted a birthday party for them that was attended by every child in their kindergarten class at Morgan Elementary School.

“We come from a very thoughtful and caring Italian family and we always have more than enough,” Lauren added. “We couldn’t think of what we needed ... we had enough.” They hold fundraising events throughout the year and receive support from the Hamilton Township School District. The girls for one fundraiser, students could wear pajamas to school by donating $3 to their nonprofit. Local businesses hold drives, too, collecting monetary donations as well as sleepwear.Both turn 18 on May 12. Mackenzie will attend The College of New Jersey and study kinesiology while Lauren will attend Connecticut College, where she will pursue environmental studies and swim.

“We are honored to recognize Lauren and Mackenzie with this special award,” said Rotary Club President Kalpana Patel. “They have put smiles on the faces of kids for more than 12 years through their selfless acts of community service. They are wonderful role models.”

The ballroom dancing competition, which pairs celebrities with professional dance partners, has become one of the network’s most popular shows. Goodman was head judge on the U.S. version of the show, “Dancing With the Stars,” for 15 years until his retirement in November. Goodman was also a recipient of the Carl Alan Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to dance.
