The Vernon school district says some teachers were told they can keep their jobs following a review of the district budget.
The K-12 district in Sussex County announced last month it needed to cut the staff due to a budget shortfall in the 2023-24 school district budget that was exacerbated by $8.5 million in state aid reductions over the last six years.
However, after the Sussex County superintendent’s office conducted a review of the proposed spending plan, the school board agreed to add $1.3 million to the operating budget and restore 11 of the 43 cut teaching positions, according to a presentation at the school board meeting last week.
