Chad Rossy, 41, has been a member of the Mount Olive department since 2007 and served as union president in 2018 and 2019, according to the lawsuit.
A veteran police officer in a Morris County township has filed a lawsuit against the police department, claiming he was denied promotions and job opportunities because of his leadership role in a police union.
Mount Olive Police Chief Stephen Beecher denied Rossy job opportunities and a promotion to sergeant because of his involvement with the FOP, states the suit, filed Aug. 29 in Superior Court of Morris County. Rossy, 41, has been a member of the Mount Olive department since 2007 and served as union president in 2018 and 2019, according to the suit.In March 2021, Rossy suffered an injury to his right hand and requested light duty, according to the suit. Beecher denied the request and Rossy instead had to use 144 hours of sick time, the suit says.
In May 2021, Rossy submitted a letter to the department expressing his interest in working for the Communications and Records Division. A worker with less experience than Rossy was picked for the job, the suit says.
