N.J. invites more offshore wind farm proposals despite ongoing probe into whale deaths
As part of a partnership between Shell New Energies US LLC and EDF Renewables North America, Atlantic Shores
350 turbines with several offshore wind projects, set to be located about 10 miles off New Jersey’s coast from Ocean County down to Atlantic County third round of offshore wind proposals was announced, the state’s BPU said there would be new requirements. Developers conducting survey work at the Jersey Shore and along the coast already have measures in place to safeguard marine mammals and minimize impact on the region, company officials have previously said.note that vessels involved with offshore wind infrastructure in the region will need to slow down for marine mammals, maintain their distance during work and station an observer onboard to avoid or reduce impact to animals migrating nearby.

The third solicitation approved Monday will specifically target between 1,200 to 4,000 more megawatts of power. The state also has“New Jersey is blessed with offshore geology and wind speeds that render it a prime vehicle for the state’s energy transition,” Heidi Yeh, a policy director with nonprofit, Pinelands Preservation Alliance, said in a statement after the BPU’s vote Monday.
