As if we don’t have enough political divisions of our own, far too many are mind-numbingly staring into their social media feeds and concluding that the best possible course to follow is to import U.S. problems north of the border.
This is not to wallpaper over our own current shortcomings in these areas. Nor is it to suggest historical wrongs like residential schools should be ignored … or, worse, outright denied.Article content Canada is not broken. What might be broken, however, is our political discourse. Perhaps Canada’s biggest problem is that we have conceded political debate to the two warring factions. Neither seems willing to give an inch.
Maybe our biggest problem is that we are conceding our Canadian identity to those who want to replace it with their own political views. Or maybe all this political anger and vitriol is far removed from how we really are, in a country where most people aren’t political … or, at least, are capable of setting political nonsense aside.
