Xavier Johnson returned for a sixth season at Ohio State because the versatile playmaker believes he has more to give, on and off the field.

’s teammates from when he arrived at Ohio State in 2018 are gone. He is the last link on the Buckeyes' roster to the Urban Meyer era at Ohio State.

He did enough by the 2021 season to earn a scholarship. Last year, he became an all-purpose weapon as a receiver and running back as well as special-teams contributor. He talked to people he trusted, such as former walk-on receiver C.J. Saunders and former staffer Ryan Stamper, as well as coach Ryan Day and offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.“Coach Day and coach Hart, they laid out a plan that they have for me, and I was very comfortable with the plan that they had set before me,” Johnson said. “I just kind of felt like there was some more meat left on the bone.
