In most cases this would not be particularly notable, because it happens almost every day. Take away the “obscene amount of money” part of it, and you’ve no doubt noticed it occasionally happens in this space.
“Johnny Manziel will become even bigger in the city of Cleveland than his buddy and business partner LeBron James ever was in the city of Cleveland,” Skip Bayless, then a personality employed by ESPN, said on his show after the Browns selected the Texas A&M quarterback in 2014. But this is not meant to pile on Manziel, nor even to take a dig at Bayless, who reacted to all of the people mocking those old clips on social media this week by laughing his way to the bank.And there isn’t a better weekend to do it than at the NFL draft.
