Mick Schumacher sure has landed on his feet after being dismissed by Haas as a race driver. Schumacher left the Ferrari driver academy soon after, which let him

It was a bit of a homecoming, since Mercedes was the last team his father drove for in F1 before his second retirement.. Mercedes supplies McLaren with engines, and it seems part of that agreement will let them share reserve drivers on race weekends. He went from driving for a team that was endlessly frustrating to having a shot at driving for two of the top teams in the paddock.

His father had a famous rivalry with McLaren driver Mika Hakkinen in the late Nineties and early Aughts, with both of them winning multiple consecutive championships while competing. While there is no guarantee of a race run this season or a future race seat out of this arrangement, these are two of the best, most well-resourced teams on the grid, so if he does get the call up to replace Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Lando Norris, or Oscar Piastri, there's a good chance Mick could come away with the best result of his career. And if he doesn't, he'll still get simulator time and some free practice runs that'll help him grow as a driver.
