Sequoia Capital's Michael Moritz, who led early bets on the likes of Google and PayPal, is leaving the firm after almost 40 years
The former journalist, who wrote a seminal book about Steve Jobs and Apple, joined Sequoia in 1986 and led its investments into an array of tech's biggest names such as Google and PayPal. Moritz stepped back from a management role at the fund in 2012 and became chairman after he was diagnosed with a rare medical condition.
Moritz will instead focus on the investor's wealth management unit Sequoia Heritage, the company's managing director Roelof Botha said in a memo to limited partners on Wednesday, according toDealBook reported that Moritz would continue to represent the firm at a handful of companies but would be replaced on the boards over time.
