For weeks, Mets minor-league players have been working out at the team’s spring training facility, but this day was different.
A lockout that lasted 99 days was complete, allowing members of the 40-man roster to finally permeate the premises.. Jordan Yamamoto, who spent all of last season on the injured list, was also an early arrival. Before the weekend is complete, the Mets will have most, if not all, of their team participating in workouts. The team is still working to finalize its Grapefruit League schedule, but the expectation is the Mets will play their opener next Saturday.
Buck Showalter finally gets to meet his players after only being able to learn about them through video.Now the trick will be familiarizing himself in a hurry with his new team. Showalter has spent monthsand his staff and watched them on video. But it’s another thing to evaluate them in person and learn the various personalities.
