in 2012, this was before anybody had driven the first AMG hot hatch, pre-SLS Black Series and way, way before the tie up with Aston Martin. If 2012 seems a long time ago, that might be because it is.
Nowadays, of course, we expect epic and tend to get it - the latest, 730hp GT Black Series being the most emphatic proof. But at the time of the C63 the world had seen the SLK, CLK and SL Black Series. The SLK simply wasn't very good, the CLK was utterly wonderful, and the SL didn't make sense beyond tarmac that wasn't very flat, very smooth, and very wide.
