The memorial will fittingly be held in the Run Baby Run Arena inside the Yanitelli Recreation Life Center.
amid the current Peacocks’ historic NCAA Tournament run that stirred memories of Webster’s “Run Baby Run” 1968 team that upset Duke to reach the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament.
Webster, who in 2018 was named one of New Jersey’s top 25 men’s college basketball players of all-time, averaged 25 points a game in the 1967-68 season and 24.1 point a game in 1968-69. Webster scored 51 in the NIT first-round victory over Marshall and the 29 in the 100-71 victory over a ranked Duke University team that was heavily favored to win.
Webster was a member of the Board of Trustees at Saint Peter’s and he also served as a councilman in West Orange and a Hudson County freeholder. As a freeholder, he advocated for setting a grade-point average that must be achieved to be allowed to participate in high school extracurricular activities, which proved to be unpopular among some coaches.
