Meghan Markle said she and Prince Harry had to exit the British royal family because, “just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy,” while Harry claimed that members of his family are incapable of living and working together.
Asked by interviewer Allison P. Davis about her relationship with her own estranged father, Meghan tells Davis: “Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process.’ It doesn’t have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that’s his decision.”
However, the section of the interview which is most likely to irritate the royals is when Davis explains their thinking behind their initial bid to remain in the royal family but earn their own money. Meghan told Davis the deal they wanted wasn’t “reinventing the wheel” and apparently named “a handful of princes and princesses and dukes” who have just that arrangement. But, Meghan says: “That, for whatever reason, is not something that we were allowed to do, even though several other members of the family do that exact thing.”
Much of the interview was conducted at the royals’ home in Montecito, California, which, Meghan says, they initially decided not to consider because they couldn’t afford it. That changed when they signed a reported $25 million Spotify deal and a reported $100 million Netflix deal. In another part, Davis visits their “shared home office” and Harry says, “Most people that I know and many of my family, they aren’t able to work and live together.”She adds that the couple denies they are doing a “reality show,” but then quotes Meghan saying, “The piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see, is our love story.”
Meghan also discusses returning to their former home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, earlier this summer during the queen’s jubilee festivities, saying, “You go back and you open drawers and you’re like,”
