Four people died at an Oak Forest home Friday after police responded to reports of a barricaded subject and a fire, the Cook County medical examiner’s office says.

Four people died at an Oak Forest home Friday where police were on the scene of a barriccade subject and a fire, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office Oak Forest residents in and around the 5500 block of Ann Marie Lane were told to shelter in place as as emergency responders were on the scene, according to the city.The situation began at about 7 a.m., according to a post on the city’s Facebook page. TV news reports showed smoke coming from a home in that area. The posting noted that there is a heavy police and fire presence in the area.

At about 10:45 a.m., officials said there was no longer a threat to the community, but the investigation continues. But the medical examiner’s office reported the four deaths, though names, ages and other identification were being withheld until family members were notified.Oak Forest officials had closed Central Avenue from Independence to 155th Street, and it will remain closed as police and fire continue to investigate.
