Gary Sánchez hits a home run in second game with Padres; Snell goes six innings without allowing run for first time this season
And the Padres almost got away with not expending very much of their rarest resource.
Gary Sánchez, playing in his second game for the team that claimed him off waivers on Monday, provided the game’s only run with a homer in the fourth inning and spent the rest of his time helping guide Blake Snell and three relievers through the game. Snell got through the first of his 11 starts this season in which he didn’t allow a run with only minimal drama. A double play grounded ended the fourth inning after a walk and single at the start. A double play erased a leadoff single in the fifth. A fielder’s choice ended his final inning after he had issued a one-out walk and a two-out walk.
