A Camp Pendleton Marine's wife was picked for the Irene Ferguson Marine Wife Recognition Award
A Camp Pendleton Marine’s wife was recognized for going above and beyond in her service to the Marine Corps and the community.
Hughes was honored for her significant efforts going the extra mile to support Marines and their families, especially during deployments. For several years, she served as a full-time Deployment Readiness Coordinator for both the 11th and 13th Marine Expeditionary Units based at Camp Pendleton. The award was created by the late Marine Maj. Glenn Ferguson in memory of his wife of 64 years, Irene Ferguson, to honor the sacrifice made by Marine wives in support of their husbands. Ferguson, a World War II pilot and Korean War veteran, handled White House security for President Franklin Roosevelt and served as a medical-evacuation pilot in Korea and a Marine One co-pilot for President Dwight Eisenhower.
