Baby dolls get the boot when Barbie comes around in the first teaser trailer for Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie movie
dropped on Friday , revealing that the long-legged doll is here to change the way kids play with their toys forever.in IMAX theaters. Parodying Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi epicwith its iconic opening theme, the video introduces a group of little girls playing in the desert with infant dolls. “Since the beginning of time, since the first little girl existed, there have been dolls,” Helen Mirren narrates.
The girls look up with awe and bewilderment at Margot Robbie dressed in a vintage swimsuit calling back to the very first Barbie doll created in 1959. She tips her sunglasses with a wink as the children smash and destroy the baby dolls. A montage of colorful clips appear depicting the plastic and fantastic world she is from, along with a large cast featuring Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and more.
