A man Azle police said made threats with a knife died Sunday after officers used “less lethal” force.
At 7:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Boyd Road, after a call about a man making threats with a knife police said. The city is located about 17 miles northwest of Fort Worth. Police said Sunday in a news release that the man, who was holding a knife, “advanced” on officers who responded to the call, and refused to follow officers’ commands. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the man as 28-year-old George J. Gordon III. A cause and manner of death were not yet listed Sunday afternoon.
Officers used “less lethal options” to stop the suspect, and administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, police said. The department did not provide details about what options officers used.Officers did not fire their service weapons, Azle police said, adding that the Texas Rangers have been called to investigate.
