The man was indicted on charges of bias Intimidation and criminal mischief, officials said.
A Toms River man was indicted Thursday following an investigation into an incident where he allegedly shattered the car window of a guest who was visiting his neighbor after hurling racial and homophobic slurs at him, officials said.
Patrick Pennell, 55, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of bias intimidation and criminal mischief in connection with the Nov. 22, 2022 incident, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. On that day, Pennell allegedly approached the guest, became confrontational and made racial and homophobic slurs to the person, the office said. As the guest was trying to leave, Pennell punched the driver’s side window of his car, causing it to shatter, authorities said.
When officers arrived, they found the car with the broken window and after learning what had allegedly happened, Pennell was arrested and taken to Toms River Township Police Headquarters, investigators said. He was processed and charged on a summons pending future court appearances.
