At a briefing, Chief of Department Kenneth Corey told reporters the shooting appeared to be a random attack, which occurred while the victim was seated in the last car of the train heading from Brooklyn into Manhattan. The gunman fled the scene before police arrived. The gunman is described as a dark-skinned man with a beard and was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie, gray sweatpants, and white sneakers.
