A Hammond man is dead after a motorcycle crash in East Chicago Sunday evening.

Officers at around 7:19 p.m. September 10 were sent to the 5600 block of Homerlee Avenue after dispatch advised there were two men lying unresponsive in the street, the East Chicago Police Department said in a release Monday. The motorcycle was found 200 feet away from the men past the intersection of Homerlee and Carroll Street, the release said.The first man — Sebastián Hernandez, 23 of Hammond — suffered severe road rash and a possible broken left arm, according to the release.

The men were speeding southbound on Homerlee when they lost control of the bike, the release said. No one else was injured, and nothing else was hit. The accident is still under investigation. Anyone with further information should contact Lt. Juda Parks at
