The Wednesday afternoon crash involved two tractor-trailers and a box truck and shut down traffic.
Daniel V. Blashchishin, 36, of Portland, Oregon, was traveling westbound through the tunnel around 2 p.m. in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, when he veered into eastbound traffic and hit a box truck, according to Pennsylvania State Police.Blashchishin’s tractor-trailer continued west, partially in the eastbound lane, and crashed into an eastbound tractor-trailer. Both tractor-trailers were severely damaged, according to state police.
State police said Blashchishin’s tractor-trailer continued westbound in the eastbound lanes and crashed into the tunnel wall. His tractor-trailer finally came to a rest in the eastbound lane, about 25 yards away from the initial crash scene.The box truck’s driver — a 57-year-old Womelsdorf man — suffered minor facial injuries, state police said. The 35-year-old Harrisburg man driving the eastbound tractor-trailer was not injured.
All lanes were closed after the crash. State police said all three vehicles had to be towed out of the tunnel.
