A Georgia man was sentenced to more than four years in prison for stealing millions from a South Texas school district, the Department of Justice said.
Donald Ray Lockard, 67, of Douglassville, Ga., was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Lockard stole money from the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District while doing business as DL Investments. From August 2019 to February 2020, he stole a little more than $2 million.Officials said unknown co-conspirators sent fraudulent emails to the district’s comptroller claiming to be a representative of BOK Financial, where the district made its biannual bond payments, a federal complaint said.
After the payment from the district was made in August and February, Lockard wired the money to his own account and withdrew the money as cash.
