We sit down with the horror legend MNightShyamalan and discuss his latest film, KnockattheCabin, his long and storied career, as well as the casting of Dave Bautista:
M. Night Shyamalan has been on a hot streak lately, with a string of commercially successful films under his belt including The Visit, Split, Glass, and Old, all of which rely on a winning mix of high-concept premises and character-driven suspense. He's also expanded his empire to include TV, with his successful Apple TV+ show, Servant, currently airing its fourth and final season.
M. Night Shyamalan: You're doing such a great job of allowing the audience to experience what you experienced. Yeah, it was such a beautiful ratcheting of the tension, squeezing every single bit of air out of it. That was the intention; I'm gonna write the tightest screenplay, we're gonna shoot it in a way that's just relentless for you guys, and thereby, the emotions are just leaping. It's getting more and more dangerous, emotionally and physically, each step of the way.
M. Night Shyamalan: There was a moment where I thought, "Who could...?" This is an impossible role, a giant who can emote and do 30 pages of monologue. This person doesn't exist! And then I was like, wait a minute, what about that guy in Blade Runner 2049? I don't know much about wrestling, so it wasn't like I had that in my head. And probably if I did, I might have been blinded to the fact that this person is an amazing actor. But I was like, "That guy was incredible.
