International group with two members from Saskatoon makes its Canadian debut with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra on Saturday.
After all, the group of six — from Canada, France, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States — didn’t meet in person for years after they first connected online.
They became fans of each other’s work, and a few of those familiar faces reached out to each other. Over the ensuing years, they connected and collaborated, albeit largely online, before a fateful in-person meeting of the whole group that would become Accent. “We’re there with a whole slew of professional musicians that we also want to feature and integrate into the show. So it’s just basically trying to come up with something that’s balanced, where you get a little bit of this, you get a little bit of that, but at the end, you get a lot of heart.”
“It’s very much like being in six different long-distance relationships,” Kesler added. “That’s kind of what it feels like; it takes that effort to maintain, and between the music and everyone’s own individual connections to each other, it’s just very real. So that definitely has kept us through this.”
