No shortage of teams still stinging after incidents in first two races of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

After being pushed off and crashing while dueling for the lead at Sebring in the closing stages, will Acura ARX-06 driver Felipe Albuquerque be in the mood for payback on the streets of Long Beach when it comes to passing the Porsche Penske Motorsport entries?

“If the cars are really running closely at a place like Long Beach,” said Pipo Derani, co-driver of Action Express Racing’s Cadillac V-Series.R, “You expect you’re going to have to muscle your way around some of your competition to try to have an edge. That’s all good for the sport.” Traffic played a major role in last year’s Long Beach sprint. Pole winner and race leader Sebastien Bourdais found himself in the wall at the exit of the Hairpin when he chose a tight line while passing a GTD entry at the tail end of the field, hoping to get a good launch down the long Shoreline Drive straight.

But the Hairpin is also where Derani lost a dive plane in traffic after last year’s start. He anticipates being aggressive once again in the new hybrids. “Long Beach being shorter is a different dynamic, so you have to switch to a different strategy,” he said. “I would suggest a little argy-bargy is necessary. I would even suggest to that his car doesn’t have enough red.
