July is disability awareness month. Tucson man shares his struggles and achievements as a blind and hearing impaired advocate in our community.
TUCSON, Ariz. — Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is a chance to honor the achievements and struggles of those with disabilities. A local disability advocate with a big role in local government is sharing his inspiring story.
“2012 was probably the last year of decent sight that I had. Lights out occurred in 2015," said Chris Desborough, Community Outreach Director for Ward 2. "I haven't changed anything. I'm still the same person. In fact, I'd probably go as far to say I'm probably a better person because of my disability," said Desborough.Visiting his friends across the pond who had moved from the UK to Tucson, Chris fell in love and started a family right here in the Old Pueblo.They always makes sure that I know when there are obstacles around which is very helpful. But other than that life is normal. Whatever normal is," he said.
