LA school Supe Alberto Carvalho makes a bid to address loss of students, by launching ‘Born to Learn’ with USC.
Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Alberto Carvalho announced the district’s “Born to Learn” partnership with the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center on Tuesday, Nov. 1, with an aim to provide new families with support and help in early childhood development needs.

The partnership with the hospital, which will provide health expertise, ensures that a child’s holistic needs are attended to, officials said. For example, a majority of LAUSD students have not participated in a wellness check, according to LAUSD spokesman Britt Vaughn. The package will also include a postcard with a link to an online family survey, which will inform LAUSD counseling staff of the family’s needs. “We just want to make sure that families understand what the excellent opportunities are available to families in our district,” Chau said.
