Would you live in the original Halloween house?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Strode house from the original Halloween is now on sale for an enormous price. Released in 1978, Halloween introduced audiences to Laurie Strode and her battle against masked serial killer Michael Myers. After the slasher film saw extreme success, Halloween went on to have a number of sequels, the most recent of which being 2022’s Halloween Ends.
The house that made Halloween famous is now on the market. According to Collider, the house is now being sold for a whopping $1.79 million price tag. The Halloween house boasts a 5,200 foot square footage, and has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a two-car garage. Curiously, the realty company behind its sale is not playing up the fact that this house was used in Halloween.
The Halloween House Price Is Larger Than The Film’s Remarkably Small Budget Halloween famously turned its small budget into a multi-million dollar profit, and went on to become one of the most successful horror franchises of all time. In contrast, the Halloween house’s sale price is over six times the film’s budget.
These financial gains on such little means were crucial to the legacy of Halloween. In the film, director John Carpenter revealed that it was not high-priced costumes or big-name actors that created dread. Rather, it was the creation of psychological terror – the use of a protagonist’s fear to invoke viewers’ own – that really made a film scary. Carpenter’s masterclass in low-budget suspense laid the groundwork for his slasher successors such as Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
While the Halloween sequels of today have much higher budgets than the 1978 film , the low-budget horror trend continues today. Most recently, this has been witnessed through the shocking success of micro budget features like Terrifier 2 and Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. As such, it is clear that Halloween leaves an impression on horror films today, and even its iconic house can turn a whopping profit.
