'Abeja Reina,' her fourth album, has realigned things for the regional Mexican singer. The title translates to 'Queen Bee,' a title Chiquis finally feels comfortable stepping into as a performer.

“I think it was when I finished this album that I said, ‘I’m so confident in what I did’ that I lost the fear. Even onstage, I feel different,” she says. “I know people probably aren’t gonna be ready for what I have to say on this album. But I don’t care. This is me, this is what I wanna bring.”It is a strong song, every phrase, every word. But I feel like I can defend it. It makes me feel powerful. It makes me feel like,"This is why I'm here." Corridos are usually for men.
Even the album’s cover image was part of the larger theme. It features Chiquis wearing a gold crown, honey dripping down her face. She’s looking upward and bathed in gorgeous light. She wanted that photo to be the focus, so the cover doesn’t include her name or the album title. “I always pull something positive and something sweet out of a sour situation,” she says. “That’s been my life, man, and that’s what this album is about.”
