Journalist found stabbed to death was writing expose on official
LAS VEGAS — Police in Las Vegas searched the home of an elected official and towed away a vehicle similar to one sought in the fatal stabbing of a veteran investigative news reporter.A Las Vegas police statement acknowledged serving search warrants Wednesday concerning the death last week of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German but did not give any details.
Telles’ whereabouts during the search of his home were unknown. He returned to the house around 2:20 p.m. wearing what appeared to be a white hazmat suit. He ignored reporters’ questions as he entered through the garage. Michael Murphy, the former Clark County coroner hired to address friction and complaints of bullying and favoritism in the public administrators’ office, also did not immediately respond to a telephone message.
On June 18, he tagged German and the Review-Journal in a tweet saying: “Looking forward to lying smear piece #4 by @JGermanRJ. #onetrickpony I think he’s mad that I haven’t crawled into a hole and died.”German, 69, was found Saturday morning stabbed to death outside his home. Police said he apparently was killed Friday in an altercation with another person, and characterized the attack as an isolated incident.
