With his team needing a pick-me-up after a miserable first half Sept. 23, junior quarterback Landon O’Connell got back to work on the opening drive of the second half against Westerville Central.
The drive itself, though, was a reminder of how far O’Connell and the team have come in the desire to balance the passing game with a powerful ground attack led by four-year starting running back Dawaun Green. “We could really never catch momentum. We came out in the second half and we drive the ball all the way down the field and fumble it at the 1-yard line. Our quarterback made some big plays on scrambles making guys miss, but it was just one of those games that everything kind of snow-balled.”
Despite his limited experience at quarterback, Landon O’Connell was offered a scholarship by Bowling Green before his sophomore year. While Green has provided a steadying presence by rushing for 861 yards and 16 touchdowns through seven games, O’Connell has emerged while also fostering a young group of receivers.
