Lakers will rest LeBron James, Anthony Davis at Brooklyn
NEW YORK — Pursing his lips through a brief postgame scrum with reporters in TD Garden’s visiting locker room, LeBron James mused that he would need a little time to swallow the disappointment.
The Lakers’ top two players have been recent mainstays on the injury report. James has been listed as questionable for weeks with left ankle soreness, largely playing through it. Davis has played two games, coming off the bench in both, since returning from a 20-game layoff from a foot injury. Both played the entirety of overtime on Saturday night against the Celtics .
The absence may seem conspicuous for James’ high-profile chase of Kareem Abdul-Jabber’s all-time scoring record. Missing a game in Brooklyn makes it more likely that James — who needs 117 points to pass the Lakers legend — breaks one of the NBA’s most hallowed marks in a home game rather than during the three remaining road games at New York, at Indianapolis or at New Orleans.
“He’s playing at an all-time high level,” Ham said. “He’s in a really, really good rhythm and he’s not one to take games off. That’s really difficult for him to do.”
