– A Los Angeles City Councilman has proposed allocating funding towards tackling the issue of street racing in the San Fernando Valley.

Blumenfield said the $100,000 would be used to support LAPD overtime costs for specialized enforcement by the LAPD Operations Valley Bureau to target areas of organized racing and speeding over the next five months. “I have constituents who are often woken up in the middle of the night by a half dozen cars going three times the speed limit, screeching around turns in what were recently quiet neighborhoods. This isn’t just a quality of life issue, people are dying and this is beyond unacceptable,” Blumenfield said in a statement Wednesday.FILE — At the scene of a crash in Burbank, Calif. in which three people were killed.
