Malveaux repeats as the Houston area's top private school wrestler after another outstanding campaign. He was 50-1 after winning the TAPPS state championship on his home mat in the 190-pound class, earning Upper Weight Wrestler of the Meet. The Texas Prep state champion followed with an All-American performance at the National Prep Wrestling Championships in Maryland, winning five of his first six matches and ultimately placing sixth.
"We started at the same time," Manibog said."It's just always been a family thing. Our grandpa did it. My dad was a high school coach, went to the Olympics for the Philippines. We've always been wrestling our cousins at family events when we were younger, too. Every time he's down here we get a little scrap in. I try to show him I'm a little more grown up now, he tries to show me I'm still the little brother. That's always fun.
"He's always been super supportive, even when I wasn't in the program," Manibog said."Spring break or winter break practices he'd have me and Connor in the room, seeing what it's like, even though we weren't high schoolers yet. Just getting used to that Katy mindset, that intensity, really helps." "I think the first time Jeremy's dad contacted me was around 2009," Lowe said."We got the kids together in a room, they learned about it, had some fun. We started working from there. It's funny, I didn't know how I'd survive without a Martinez in the program. It's going to be interesting not having a Manibog in the program."
