The news comes after Genesco, the parent company of Journeys, reported a seven percent decrease in sales in the first quarter.
A footwear chain expects to close more stores next year than previously planned.
Journeys sells footwear, apparel, and accessories, and has more than 800 stores across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.There are 37 Journeys/Journeys Kidz stores in Pennsylvania, according to its website. There are Journey and Journey Kidz stores at the Capital City Mall in Lower Allen Township and Journey stores at the Park City Center in Lancaster and the York Galleria Mall in Springettsbury Township, York County.
“Following a positive end to the holiday season, the first quarter proved considerably more challenging than we anticipated,” Mimi E. Vaughn, Genesco’s board chair, president and CEO, said in the earnings report. “Consumer demand at Journeys dropped off significantly early in the quarter and did not improve as we changed seasons in the latter part of March and into April, offsetting another quarter of record sales at Schuh and Johnston & Murphy.
