The Paetow girls soccer team won its first I-10 Shootout championship, defeating Jersey Village, Cypress Park and Barbers Hill, the last a 2-0 victory Jan. 15 at Rhodes Stadium.The Jordan and Paetow girls and boys soccer teams produced quite a sendoff to Class 5A this season, with both schools joining Class 6A next year.
Both schools were honored with District 19-5A awards, with Jordan adding all-state and all-region recognition from the Texas Soccer Coaches Association. Freshman midfielder Marcelo Ojeda was honored as 19-5A Newcomer of the Year, along with honorable mention all-state after amassing four goals and five assists. Teammate Pierce Sanchez was a first-team all-district selection.
Paetow won the boys 19-5A title, maintaining its hold on the top spot with a 13-0-3 district record. The Panthers finished 17-2-3 overall, defeating Kingwood Park in the playoffs. Jordan finished 15-7-1 in girls soccer, including a 13-2-1 district mark in its first varsity season. The Warriors outscored opponents 77-18, recorded 13 shutouts and defeating Lake Creek in their postseason debut.
