'I was still her daughter and she loved me the same'
during an Instagram Live. At the time, she had chosen to keep some of her coming out experience and sexuality private, saying, “Right now, I'm super-duper happy and I want to share everything with the world but I also want to keep things in my life private until they are ready to be public.” Since then, she has chosen to share more of her personal life with fans, including during a recent stop on her D.R.E.A.M. tour.
Turning to her own coming out experience as an example, she said, "Parents, the best thing that my mom did for me when I told her that I loved another girl was nothing. She changed absolutely nothing. She didn't change the way she looked at me. She didn't change the way she talked to me. I was still her daughter and she loved me the same…”
She encouraged parents to treat their LGBTQ children the same and then addressed anyone in the audience that was LGBTQ+, saying, “Being yourself is not scary at all. Every single day, I want you to wake up and I want you to be proud of who you are. I want you to celebrate who you are and I want you to love who you are. No matter what you look like, no matter where you're from, no matter who you love, you are perfect.
