New coach Joel Floyd is ready to build on Oak Mountain High's basketball success.

“I was blessed to be at a terrific place at Spain Park,” Floyd said, “and to work with Coach Laatsch, who is the best in the business. I was very happy there and I wasn’t looking to be a head coach immediately. I’d decided I would only pursue something if the right opportunity came open. The Eagles won the 2021 Class 7A state championship after earning a spot in the Final Four the year before and making the Elite Eight in 2022.
“It’s not going to be easy to go on a run like they have the past few years. There is no guarantee about wins and losses. But, we’re going to put in the work to try to do that. We’re going to be working every day to get better and let the results take care of itself.”
