Jim Carrey was not amused by Hollywood's reaction to Will Smith's Oscars moment.
“I was sickened by the standing ovation,” Carrey added. “Hollywood is just spineless en masse, and it really felt like it was a clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”Carrey went on to say that Smith “should’ve been” escorted from the Dolby Theatre after slapping Rock for making an insensitive joke about his wife,against Smith, Carrey speculated that “he doesn’t want the hassle.” However, the comedian said he would have taken a different approach himself.
King said that tensions between Rock and Smith had “escalated,” a statement with which Carrey vehemently disagreed. “It didn’t escalate. It came out of nowhere, because Will has something going on inside him that’s frustrated,” Carrey said. “I wish him the best, I really do. I don’t have anything against Will Smith. He’s done great things. But that was not a good moment. It cast a pall over everybody’s shining moment…it was just a selfish moment.
